January 2001 Richmond Hill Post Article

This is my first opportunity to express my thanks to the electors of Ward 2 for your support and confidence in selecting me as your Councillor for the next three years. I am honoured to be the Ward Councillor and pledge to work to the best of my ability on behalf of all the people of Ward 2.

There are numerous issues facing us in Richmond Hill and we will work together on Council along with the town staff to deal with these issues as effectively as possible.

A matter which is sure to be a topic of concern is the impact that the recent reassessment of properties will have on your property taxes. Town staff have prepared a work sheet which can be used to estimate your 2001 property tax bill. This work sheet can be obtained by visiting the Town web site at www.town.richmond-hill.on.ca. The key message at this time is that no decisions have yet been made on the property tax rates in Richmond Hill.

Other items which will be addressed in the coming months include; the disposition of the proceeds of the sale of Richmond Hill Hydro once it is finalized; transit and transportation issues, and the outcome of the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearings on the Oak Ridges Moraine. Council faces a busy time in the coming months.

On behalf of my family, I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.

Please feel free to contact me at the town offices at (905) 771-2535, if I can be of assistance to you.
