NO MUNICIPAL TAX INCREASE IN 2001

Richmond Hill Town Council and staff have successfully held the line on municipal taxes for the 10th straight year. Council recently approved the 2001 budget which continues to meet the needs of the fastest growing large municipality in Canada. At the same time, Council approved a zero tax increase for its share of the municipal tax bill. Following a 3% tax decrease last year, this means that Richmond Hill residents have enjoyed ten consecutive years of no increases in the town tax rate.

There will be, however, some increase in the tax bill for homeowners who received revised property assessment notices which increased the assessed value of their property by more than 8%. This means that if the assessed value of your property is greater than 8% over last year, any increase in the Town's share of your property tax bill is a result of your property being worth more, under the latest market value assessment conducted by the Ontario Property Assessment Corporation.

Although the formal appeal period expires at the end of March, residents may still request an informal review of your 2001 assessment if you have reason to believe your assessment is incorrect.

Please contact the Ontario Property Assessment Corporation at 1-800-263-3224 for information on your assessment.
